A Few Podcast-related Updates

Hello folks! I hope everybody is doing well. I know I don’t show my face here very often anymore. Don’t worry, I’ve been a bit reclusive in my personal life as well. I guess it’s just because I’m trying to work as much as possible before I head off to Texas.

“Official” Name Changed

I’ve changed the name from The Idiologic Podcast to Complicated Noise on Apple Podcasts. If you’re already subscribed, you should see that TIP is gone and replaced by Complicated Noise. It’s full steam ahead.

Podcast Feed Changes

I am posting this to let you know that I’ve made a few changes to the podcast feed. I’ve changed the name officially to Complicated Noise and moved all the files and feed to the new website. I’m working on getting the guide together now.

Podcast Files Moved

I’ve moved all the files to the new website, so you should see each file being downloaded from the new website. The episode covers and audio files are all on the new server, but if you go through the posts on this weblog, they’ll still point to the files on this website.

The Episode Guide

I’m going to have to retire the old version since I hard coded a lot of the file locations in the guide. Unfortunately, I don’t want to go back and read through all the code. I’ve also been working on a new one. Take a gander here but keep in mind that I’m still working on it:

Yeah, I’ve reused code but I’ve added a lot to the functionality. The little RECAPTCHA logo in the lower right will only appear on forms.

It’s coming. I say by the end of the year. Of course, I want to get it done before I head off to Texas. I need to get the feed creation down before then. (Right now, I’m depending on Feeder 3 which I like, but want it all to be automated.)

In Conclusion…

I have a lot to work on still but I don’t want to be making changes to the old software right now because my “free time” is a bit limited. It’ll come at some point! Just thought that I’d update you guys.

The Mastodon in the Room

As if I didn’t have enough social media accounts, I’ve added another one. This time, it’s Mastodon. Basically, Mastodon is an open source social network. It’s similar to Instagram, Twitter, and etc but unlike those services, it is decentralised.

If you use Mastodon, or if you’re curious about what it is, my profile is here.

@complicatednoise@mastodon.social

Possibly see you around there?

Days and Days of Delays

Ooops! Sorry for that last blog post (which has been deleted now). I had planned to tell you about Complicated Noise a long time ago, but kept moving the publish date when I knew that things weren’t running on schedule. They still aren’t, actually.

A few things have been happening that are causing a lot of delays and July is already promising to be a very challenging month. I’ll talk more about that in the next Complicated Noise episode. I’m trying my best to keep up with everything and to keep my head together. Please be patient with me in the meantime.

I’ll be back with you guys soon. I’m trying so hard to get the new podcast website working. See you a bit later!

Update: Episode #34: Consoling Console will be here on Wednesday morning.

Complicated Serving

code

Just a heads up that you might start seeing files being served from ComplicatedNoise.com soon. I’m in the process of moving all the audio, video, images, and database junk there. I’m still working on the core site, so the web app isn’t available just yet.

If anything gives you any trouble in the next month or two, just let me know.

TIPped Off

It’s been one year of The Idiologic Podcast! Can you believe it? Instead of throwing a huge party and inviting all the friends I don’t have here and making a huge speech, I’m just going to say a huge thank you to all of you who have popped in every so often to hear about what’s happening in my life. I know sometimes it’s really not all that exciting. I’ve said it a dozen times: I don’t expect that to be what I’m remembered for after I die anyway.

But, there is one thing I can tell you is that a name change is coming because well, I was never that impressed with the name of my podcast. It doesn’t really make much sense. I am not even really sure what an Idiologic is. I don’t expect anybody else does either because it’s pretty much misspelled anyway.

NOT the cover… even I know it’s ugly.

I’ve been in the process of renaming my podcast to Complicated Noise. It won’t be really changed much as far as content goes, but I hope that it gets better, especially at the end of the year. I’m looking forward to keeping the project going and to make it better. I’m pretty excited to get back to tthe USA and start recording again.

That’s why I’ve been really quiet lately (that and work has been keeping me busy). When things are working how they are supposed to, I will share it with you here.

I’ll talk more about this in my next podcast episode. šŸ™‚

A Bit of Background Work

Jubes

I haven’t been in contact with you guys lately but it’s because I’m doing a few interesting things in the background. I’m rebuilding the guide (again) but it won’t take as long as before since I’m reusing some code. Instead of posting general nonsense here and just filling up virtual space, I am working on that. I will share more of what I’m doing later.

Stay tuned!

A Change of Name

cropped-favicon.pngYes, it’s Monday. Today’s a public holiday. In case you’re curious, it’s Labour Day here in Victoria. Work didn’t want me to go in today because I’m too expensive to work on holidays. While the husband sleeps, I am just working on a few things and listening to podcasts.

I’ll let you know what’s bothering me though. “Idiologic” is bothering me because it’s always been misspelled. I knew that though when I made my usernames and stuff like that. I am thinking about changing everything sometime this year. It shouldn’t affect too much. I just have to decide whether I am going to do it or not.

Fun fact: I was going to make software and music under a name called ID/IO.

This time, I’m going to make sure it’s spelled right–and it’s not like people use ideologic in everyday conversation. I’m going to think about it for a while then let you guys and girls know what I’m going to do.

It’s not really something that I’d like to do because it would be a whole lot of work to do, but we will see. So much would need “rebranded”.

Anyway, I hope you are all doing well. New episode this Friday or Saturday.

A Few Guide Updates

Just letting you know that I’ve made a few updates to the podcast episode guide. This may be a nice way to tell you that some things might not work correctly.

Here is the list of things that have changed:

  • New menu added to guide with links to the weblog, preferences, login, and support.
  • Guide/Player Preferences link is now located at the top of the page. (Right now, if you change a preference, the page reloads with the new preference applied. I will be changing this later.)
  • You can set preference to show button labels on the grid. It simply makes the label under the icons appear or disappear.
  • Log in link added, but it’s not ready just yet. I’m testing it locally to make sure it works correctly. It will basically give you early access to upcoming episodes (if available), give you more feedback options on the player, and for supporters, access to unreleased podcast episodes, access to more images and video, and possibly handwritten mail from wherever I am at the moment. I’m hoping to have it done by early next year.
  • In-post web media player and any links to listen to the latest episode will start using the new web player. It still defaults to the built-in browser media player since it doesn’t have proper audio seeking and reliable volume controls.

I’ll keep updating when I have some time. If stuff doesn’t work, kindly let me know.

New TIP Guide

A view of the new guide

I’ve been a little eager trying to get the new guide ready, and I’ll admit: It’s here, but it’s not perfect. I’m going to work on the bugs in my spare time.

You can reach the preferences under the search bar on each page. You can choose which view (grid, list, and compact view), how many episodes appear on the guide, and whether the audio autoplays when you request the player. On the player, there is an extra preference whether to use the TIP-themed player or use the browser’s built-in audio player.

Note: There are a few problems, but I’ll be working out the bugs over the next month or so. Things should work just fine right now though.

Take a look at the new guide right now.
