The Big 30 is Here and so is World AIDS Day

Happy Birthday to Me

So alright, I haven't made too much of a big deal about it this year, but yes, exactly 30 years ago on 1 December 1979, a baby boy was born: me. Oh and my friend Jonathan too. Also one of my friend's grandfather's. Wow.

It's unfortunate that my father isn't here to celebrate my birthday with me but I guess that is the funny thing about life. I'm still saddened by the sudden loss of my father, but life must go on.

From today, I look forward to the years ahead and it's time to buckle down and do the things I have always wanted (like skydiving, possibly... I was supposed to go with my dad, but I think he would want me to go anyway and yes, I'm scared).

I'm looking forward to being with my family and friends here in Texas. We're having chicken and sausage gumbo! My mom's making dinner and my sister is making the cake. So I have to thank them to bits!

Also, let's not forget that December 1st is also World AIDS Day. I used to be kinda mad at that day sharing my birthday but I'm over it. Please protect yourself when having sex and if you choose not to, get tested regularly, yes? Or buy RED products that contribute to AIDS research.

And if I've offended anybody by what I just said, it's not my intention.

Digital Cameras made MUCH easier

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Eye-Fi. All opinions are 100% mine.

Isn't it irritating when you can't find your card reader or USB cable? I'll tell you right now that I have a bag of all my wires and I'll even go as far to say it's not pretty. And what kinda irks me is that I never remember to get the pictures off my camera when I DO know where the cable is. Later, people always ask me where the pictures are that I took on my 25th birthday and I have to say "Of course they're still on my camera!"

To upload my pictures, I usually just turn my camera on (assuming I can find the USB cable) and use iPhoto (or HP software on a PC) to get the pictures off my camera. It's very handy but there's a little flaw there. I forget that my camera is on and it drains the battery. I don't know this until I have to take pictures and my camera's battery is dead!

The Eye-Fi card fits like a standard SD card and turns your camera wireless! No need digging in a box or bag of wires to find the right cable. How cool would that be? Super cool, I'm telling you! The Eye-Fi card can automatically backup your pictures and has 4 GB of storage so you can later wirelessly transfer them to photo sharing sites.

idioPod 98: Thanks?

A thankful thanks is what you're expecting... what you're getting, who knows?

This podcast episode is basically one of my general update podcasts about what is going on. I recorded it while I was sick so my voice is a bit out of whack. I reveal plans regarding Australia and talk a little bit about my Thanksgiving holidays and what irritates me about it every year. I realized I started my holiday posting schedule a little early this year.

Thank you to the people who continue to listen to me. I appreciate it greatly and I know that I don't post updates that much, but hopefully I can get out of that habit soon. :) If you have questions for me, please ask.

Yet another short one for you busy people.

Good for You, Adam Lambert

Sometimes I read the news and there's something that pops out into my face that I feel like I need to blog about.  Now, let's get one thing clear.  I hate reality shows.  I especially hate TV shows where people have to "vote" for their favorite.  And I especially hate American Idol (or really [insert country name] Idol, really).

I was kind of shocked that Adam Lambert, a obviously gay guy, got to 2nd place.  HERE in the USA.  I was like, wow.  And that's from people "voting".  Well, apparently, he caused a stir at the American Music Awards when he was pushing dancers' faces into his crotch and kissing the keyboardist.  Of course, you know that the people who think that two men together means the end of the world is coming complained.  You know, as well as I do, that it would have been completely different if it was two women making out.

I've only read a little about this guy.  He's not really my type but I like how outspoken he is.  I am happy there's a guy out there who likes other guys showing people that it's OK to like guys.  As he said:

"There are a lot of double standards as far as that goes," the singer told the AP. "We've seen female pop and rock performers do that for the last 10 years. They've been very provocative, owning their power and sexuality. You just don't see men doing it very often. And I'm hoping to break down that double standard with this number."

Good for him for speaking his mind.  However, in this country, gayness doesn't do anything positive for a person's career and people still think that you can catch "the gay" from sitting next to someone.  But of course, try to tell people in this state that and they'll poke you with their pitchfork and burn you with their torches!

That's all.  All I can say is:  Adam, thanks for kissing the keyboard guy on live TV.  Good for you.

Where Have All the Podcasts Gone?

What's Happening to the Podcasts?

I know that since the end of August, you can count the number of podcasts I've done on one hand and my last few have been absolutely miserable attempts to entertain. Since my father passed away, it's been hard for me to get the motivation to sit in front of a microphone so... I just haven't bothered. Or when I do, I bore the paint off the walls.

I can't really promise how much longer idioPod will continue but until I figure out when to put it to bed, I'll do what I can.

If you're listening to my personal-themed podcast, I appreciate your time. I hope I can get up the strength to do better.

You can always send in your questions if you'd like. That would help things out quite a bit.

And a bit of an update of updates, I will post 98 before Thanksgiving. And 100 should be out by Christmas. I apologize for the delays but I hope you understand.

Delays Due to Priorities

I am just letting you guys and girls know that I needed to move around my podcasting schedule for a bit so basically the 100th episode will NOT be out until the first or second week of December.

Why?

dvd1.jpg

Right now I am working on my dad's memorial DVD that I promised my family. I thought that if I made it on my Mac that I bought in Australia, that it wouldn't play on the DVD players here. I was wrong so that meant I have been lying to people for the past 1.5 months. It's time for me to get it done, so I need to get it done by Thanksgiving which is next Thursday. I won't be able to record and post 3 podcast episodes by then.

I started idioPod 98 on Monday thinking I would post it on Tuesday, but it looks like I'm going to have to redo it. But you guys know me, who knows if it's going to happen, right?

On that note, I miss my dad and I miss Australia. I miss Felix (my dog) too.

Over 8, Again

This weekend has been the weekend of overeating. I'll try to remember what I ate, but the list is just too big I think:

Friday: I didn't eat much during the day because I knew that I was going out to eat at night. Lately, I haven't been much on going out to eat and eating everything I order. (Of course, here in the USA you're expected to eat everything and that's why people are so overweight.) So I waited until about 8:30 pm to go to a place called Chili's. And if you're in Australia, which many of you are, it's like TGI Friday's. So it's so-called American food mostly. I had planned to go to a place called Cheddar's which has the same junk, but it was getting late and when you go there, you're expected to wait about 30 min to an hour to be seated. I haven't figured that out yet.

So anyway, that late at night, I ordered a deal where it was 1 appetizer, 2 entrees and 1 dessert for $20. Silly me, I thought they'd be smaller portions. They weren't. I had skillet queso which is basically hot dog chili in cheese dip and you eat it with white corn chips. It's always really salty and those chips typically have 1 gram of fat EACH. So I probably ate like 30 of them. Next, I ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich (fried of course) with fries. And for dessert I ate a brownie with ice cream. I was really full then.

Saturday: Didn't eat breakfast and wasn't very hungry. I was still stuffed from eating all that stuff (which was a pretty good deal if you ask me.) I ended up leaving a little past noon driving around for an hour trying to decide where to eat. I decided that I wanted to go to my favorite place here for Vietnamese food. They closed it apparently and turned it into a game room. I was pretty pissed. I ended up going to IHOP and ordering one of their plates with eggs, bacon, sausage and pancakes. Good stuff, especially the apple cinnamon pancakes.

Later that day, I went to a hamburger place and got an order of fried mushrooms.

Sunday: Today I made the mistake of getting Chinese buffet food here (which is a lot of sugary junk). I overeat again. I can't even tell you what it was because I don't remember. A lot of it was just sugar-chicken... not too many vegetables. Then later I went over to Brandi's and ate a half-bowl of chicken and sausage gumbo (which is a cajun kind of soup stuff).

And here I am. I think I'm missing some stuff in there, but yeah, so I am super full. It sounds like it's not a lot (especially for American standards). But I STILL feel stuffed!

So that's a little about my weekend of eating. I had made a plan of not eating out more than 4 meals per MONTH. I hit that in like 2 days. And wow do I feel fat. I've been hovering around 170 pounds lately. I'm sure I'm about 5 pounds heaver.

But at the same time, I feel like I want some strawberry shortcake. :)

Hooray for Hot Soccer Moms!

The FAQ Answered: So What's Up?

I talk about my life in general. My dog bit my face. My plans for the future and beyond. I sitll don't know what I want to do. Dreams. My 30th birthday is coming up. Failed attempts to lose weight and lots of extra things. :)

Very short and to the point.

My Mac's Been Invaded!

What??? A virus on my Mac?

200911082251.jpg

Before you get your panties in a ruffle, this isn't a warning box on your computer. It was on mine. And of course, I downloaded it myself.

If you own a Mac, you might have heard about a "game" where it's like a Space Invaders clone. But unfortunately, for the person playing the game, for every alien that is destroyed, a random file on your computer is permanently deleted. Yes, I downloaded it. And NO I won't be playing this game.

It's called Lose Lose and one of the major security companies added it to the virus list. I think it was Symantec. I'm not directly linking to the game page itself because I want you to know:

  • If you download and play it, that's your fault.
  • If you play it and your files go missing, that's your fault.
  • If your files go missing and your apps don't work anymore, that's your fault.
  • If you delete the Olson account and lose your job because you played this game, that's your fault.

Not mine. :) So don't do anything stupid, yeah? Or go ahead and do stupid stuff, but don't blame it on me.

And if you're feeling nostalgic (like me) and want to play a SAFE version of Space Invaders that won't do nasty things to you or your computer, head here.

November: New Month, New Stuff Coming

November has officially started... like a week ago and here I am writing again some nonsense. OK, it's not nonsense. It's actual real important stuff. This is for the people who I have not contacted in a while. I want you to know that it's OK to contact me. You can send an email and if I don't answer it in a timely manner, send it again. I don't get depressed getting the same email.

I'll clue you into why I still have a website and podcast. Trust me, it's only getting harder and harder to keep my websites going. I feel like it's not something I would choose to do but because of my ties with Dreamhost, I feel like I need to continue. So to make things a little more interesting, I will be making a new front page to Idiologic soon. You will still see the latest weblog entries (the titles) but also my latest Tweets like this:

Of course I didn't do the code for that. I'll have to rework it to make it fit.

Also, I have NOT recorded a new idioPod yet. I'm going to try to do that tomorrow if I have time. If I do it, it's going to come late.
