April 2009 Archives

Today I feel like absolute crap. I just finished recording not one episode of idioPod but two: 70 and 71. I was complaining in 71 that I had a horrible headache and it's gotten a bit worse since then. Not that this really makes any difference. I'll still get 70 out on Friday which is totally optional for those who feel like they already know who I am. Then I'll go back to "normal" podcasting.

I'm sitting here thinking of what to say and I don't really have much to say, honestly. I do have a video to share with you if you want to watch it. It made me laugh like crazy.

So here it is, the Cadbury "Eyebrows" advertisement:

I hope you enjoyed that. The boy looks like he has to fart but it just won't come out (at the balloon part) and that girl is just creepy.

vidioPod 8: Coming Down

Coming down from a high place can be just as hard...

Note: This video is part 2 of 2. Part 1 can be found here.

As some of you know, about 2 weeks ago I went to one of the national parks of Australia. Hopefully you've watched the first part of this video and if not, you should. I made a video coming back down showing you a little bit of the surroundings and stuff.

Sorry about the crappy video quality.

I lack hope

Just an update before I sleep, I'm about 30% sure I got the job but you never know. I should find out in 2 weeks. Why so unsure? I totally bombed the question and answer session of what-if questions. My brain went empty during the thing. But at least I will know what to read up on next time.

I keep forgetting to do some things with my finances so I'll do that now. Goodnight.

Cold. Wet. Windy.

I've been a bit lazy posting in my weblog lately and I was gonna do it tonight but the computer's off so this one's direct from my iPod. I Twittered that I made a few minor (and cosmetic) changes to my site which I'm totally liking so far. Background patterns that aren't all stripes! Yeah exciting huh?

Tomorrow I have a meeting with a local hospital for a job. Meetings are better to go to than interviews. So I'll call it a meeting instead and boy oh boy am I excited. No really I'm looking forward to it. My stomach might not be but I am.

I had hoped to have a new video up on Tuesday. Who's tired of videos? I would be. So I'll give you a break from them for a while after I post the next one.

This weekend it was very cold, wet and windy. All those things. Not the ideal weekend but we NEED the wetness. Really bad. I miss winter but not so much at this time of year. Cold Christmases are the absolute best.

That's all from me. I'm off to bed.

idioPod 69: Oh, Sixty-Nine

When Bingo gets kinky, that's when I stop talking and start running away...

I almost completely forgot to post this! This is one of the longest podcasts I've done in a long time... probably because I did it over three days. A lot of it is random junk and a lot of the guts of it is just my thinking aloud. Interesting junk, but feel free to fast forward to the days you want to listen to.

Day 1

Day 2 (starting at 16:10)

  • Back from my vacation (Have you watched the video #7?)
  • A little bit about my vacation, feeling good, then coming back to participate in Bitch-a-thon and then not feeling so good, arguing with the partner and his stupid racism

Day 3 (starting at 35:14)

  • Planning idioPod 70
  • Other junk that I can't think of right now.

Podcast Update, Susan Boyle and Hunger

I'm not scheduled to release a podcast episode until Friday. Since I posted a video today, that poses a few problems with my episode length on Friday. I was just working on it and it's already near 40 minutes. That means we're looking at about 50 minutes to an hour when it's done. Usually, I wouldn't want to torture you people like that. And I know listening to podcast episode "parts" isn't the way to get it all done either. I started recording #69 late last week. So it's just building up. So this is your warning. :)

Good news is that I got enough pictures and video clips to make several videos. I'll post them when I don't have time to post a "real" podcast.

People lately have been going crazy over Susan Boyle. And if you don't know who she is by now, you're living under a big heavy rock. I honestly like the woman. It's the kind of lady who I'd like to bake me muffins, cakes and be my best friend. But it's also kind of amusing that this woman (who's a virgin) is being offered $1,000,000 to do porn. I think those in the porn industry are a bunch of ethically bankrupt, greedy assholes. Really.

I think I might be hungry now. So I'll go... away. AFTER I show you this picture:

vidioPod 7: The Trek Up

Reaching the top is hard work...

Note: This video is part 1 of 2.

As a lot of you know, over the weekend I went to one of the national parks of Australia. I wasn't really expecting to do much of anything... but I did have one goal. That goal was to make my partner complete a hike up to the summit of a mountain. I thought that we probably wouldn't do it... but the big question is if this video is about arguing and fighting or the feeling of accomplishment. You watch and see.

Sorry about the video quality. One of these days I'll buy a better camera. (Some parts of it are of it are actually pretty good...)

idioPod 68: Self-Education

The best way to understand the people around you is to educate yourself.

Again, I sit down and start recording. I talk about so many things that it's not even funny. The list below most likely doesn't even include all of it. I go through my morning, my thoughts and my mis-understandings of the people around around me.

A half-assed almost-comprehensive list of things I talk about are:

  • General chit-chat: weather, new job, dressing to kill (literally), vacationing
  • Thanks for the encouragement!
  • Poor John and his cat and a bit of background on my podcasting
  • Religion and misunderstandings (after the next point), views on homelessness
  • Perks of being an "international student" with no visa conditions
  • Light fetishes: noses, legs and dark-skinned guys
  • Meats people eat
  • Bisexuality, high school and a ton of other crap
  • Please: Ask general ice-breaker questions for idioPod 70

idioPod Site Redesign...

One of my biggest issues has that I have never been totally happy with the podcast section of my website. And I've also never really made a complete website for idioPod.com. But hey, things can change right?

I'm not entirely sure if you're interested, but I've started a redesign (months ago, may I add) and this is where I am:

newidiopodmaybe.jpg

I usually listen to one or two songs that capture my mood while I design. This one, one that I listened to was "Spark" (the instrumental version) by Tori Amos over and over and the design was a lot darker. You could see some chalked in words on the sidewalk. Not anymore. (This also works with my "feet video" on my projects page.)

And as always, there are issues. Such as, if you visit my website with Mobile Safari (or probably any other browser that is manipulated by touch), there is no way to scroll the "guts" of it... you know, where the scroll bar is above my right foot.

But it's a work in progress. I hope to get it done soon because what I have up now is a huge mess.

You might be wondering why I am even progressing with a redesign. I wonder the same thing... but hey, if you're interested, you can go to it by going here. (Your color preferences and junk will still carry over, etc... not sure why I took a snapshot of the brown theme...)

vidioPod 6: A Ghost in My House

Ghost. A scary one.

I left my webcam running one day and caught a ghost running around my house. Scary stuff.

This podcast episode is 2 minutes 34 seconds and weighs around 19.8 MB.

The full-quality version of my ghost movie can be downloaded here (or watch it on your iPhone).

A smaller version can be found (aka downloaded) here.

Happy Easter with Podcast News

I wanted to say Happy Easter to those who are into that kind of thing. If you're not, well, I hope you had an awesome long weekend. And if it wasn't an awesome weekend, then I am truly sorry.

For my Easter, I spent it in a little beach city close to here just walking around, eating "scones" (aka biscuits for us Americans), and discussing things about my future with my partner. It was pretty darn good.

And now, your regularly scheduled podcast news:

On Tuesday, I will again release a video podcast episode instead of an audio one because of the long weekend and I will be very busy for the next two weeks. Job interview on Tuesday and I also get my hair did and a few other things done so I'll pretty much get up and be out the door.

I am also going away next weekend (for about 4 days) so I won't be making another Tuesday deadline. Well, I should have something up for the next two Fridays (including this one coming up) and if I don't, I'm sure you'll understand. Use that time to catch up on other people's podcasts.

Also, I've kept myself afloat for the rest of this month and next month, so I'll go ahead and schedule a few more podcast episodes. (Remember, I can't promise anything!)

idioPod 67: Hooked

I had this dream and in that dream... things happened.

I sat down and decided to record a podcast after listening to Mark's (from Musings of a Tech Writer) podcast number 66 which was one day after I recorded my last one which sometimes happens. A few things have happened since then and I had to get it out. Of course, this will be posted when it's due out. I have things to talk about and I hope you want to join me, yeah?

I also speak from my heart about these things:

  • Anna Nicole... really?
  • New phone first impressions: a Nokia 6120 Classic, phones in general
  • Skipping the appetizers and soda which is a good habit, cheap food and tipping in the USA
  • Dreaming of ferrets, cats* and my mean cousin
  • Lack of list of topics: 95% of the time
  • Partner Charging Rent: Is it right?, is that when things fall apart
  • idiologic.com and idiopod.com are here, queer and a color of your choice!

Intro music and ending music from the game "World of Goo". Intro: "Hello, MOM" and Outro: Shortened version of "Red Carpet Extend-o-matic" both produced and written by Kyle Gabler.

* If you're curious how I got the title of this podcast, listen to the part about the cats.

Yeah last night's weblog entry wasn't the best, was it? I thought about deleting it this morning, but this is what it is, a journal. And this journal needs to contain my feelings I think and the things that I do. I do realize that something needs done and it needs done urgently.

Because Monday is a holiday here, I won't be doing a new podcast episode to upload on Tuesday. Instead, I will post a new video. Tomorrow, however, that's a different story. Tomorrow I'll be posting idioPod 67 so look out for it. Depending on my plans tonight, I may or may not get it put into the feed right away so this is one of those times where it's good to read the weblog.

I'm OK. I am so tired right now and my arm hurts. So I'll probably take it easy for now and just take a nap now. Everybody have a good weekend and a good Easter if you're into that kind of thing.

Off the Deep End

don't expect this one to be very long. Really. I'm using my iPod in bed doing this next to a snoring Chinese man. I came to the realization that I badly needed medicated. Lots of things have been broken around here and I have a huge self-inflicted gash in my arm from a screwdriver. Oh and there's a hole in my desk from where I stapled it. Oh and the stapler is in the garbage now. I also had to call my mobile carrier for my sim card code. And now I feel like I just want to hide in the corner and cry.

I also rejected sex from the bf. Of course that's after I spent all night screaming at him and avoiding all his questions. I don't really think anybody knows how bad off I am... until today.

Sometimes I wish I had a normal life where I didn't feel like shit constantly. I'm tired of my mood swings and my short temper.

I am looking for a doctor now. I am.

idioPod 66: My Expectations are Great

My expectations are high but my ambition is low... that probably makes me lazy.

Yet another podcast episode recorded over two days so I repeat myself a little bit because I'm too lazy to go back and listen to what I've already done. Yet at the same time, I've edited this one a lot. Oh and the title of this episode doesn't really have anything to do about me. It's just derived from the eBook I am reading.

I also talk about these lovely things:

  • Review of my decisions regarding my podcasts/websites
  • My weekend plans for the next 2 weeks
  • Why I "hate" my neighbor (re: vidioPod 5), my other neighbors *
  • Trouble in the marriage, dependency on technology(?)
  • The joys of free eBooks and "Great Expectations"
  • The World of Goo: my thoughts
  • iPhone vs a much cheaper alternative... who will win, for now?
  • Ask me questions for number 70 (a get-to-know Ben episode) now!
  • Visit idiologic.com for the latest and greatest!

In case you're wondering what I've been doing, I've been playing this:

ss_preview_wg2.jpg

And if you don't know what it is, it's called World of Goo and it makes me happy yet it makes me want to pull my hair out (or what's left of it).

It's available in a variety of flavors which mine is Mac. Physics games always make me a bit giddy. If you haven't played and you have patience, I beg you to grab it. I'm loving some of the music on it.

You can go to 2D Boy to get a fully playable demo.

Oh and hooray for independent artists! Support them, they need your love.

idioPod 65: A Sinking Ship

With my podcast, sometimes I feel like I'm on a sinking ship.

This podcast episode was recorded over two days and it was supposed to be about my favorite pieces of technology. At the last minute, I decided to change the topic to discuss about the planning direction of my websites and podcast. Still has some technology thrown in, but this one is mostly about my financial mess.

Day 1

  • So many voices in my computer... and they talk to each other!
  • My April Fool's joke that was dead on arrival.
  • Why I'm not planning any new podcast episodes past 70 (as far as I know).
  • My visa approval, communication problems within the relationship, being video game crazy, excitement over the new Nintendo DSi and why I like the Opera browser.

Day 2 (starts around 18:55)

  • Correction of the first part regarding lack of planning (not planning past APRIL, not May).
  • Excited over Tori Amos's new video of "Welcome to England" released today or err, tomorrow.
  • Briefly looking into my social anxiety.

This podcast episode is 28 minutes 22 seconds and weighs around 13 MB.

Comment with a question or two! "idioPod 65: A Sinking Ship" can be downloaded here (or to listen to on your iPhone) or listen below.

No Fooling From Me, Possible Shutdown

I'll make it easy for you guys who read this. I won't be partaking in any April Fool's festivities today. So no fake announcements, no tricks or anything like that. I'll make it easy for you. I had been planning one and that was related to my "big announcement" this week but in reality, I'm not in the mood to do anything to trick you dear, wonderful people.

I do have an announcement though of sorts and believe me, it's not a trick. Today, I'm announcing that I am not scheduling any more podcast episodes after May (for now). In fact, I'm contemplating a total shutdown of Idiologic as well as idioPod. I'm not doing that to beg for attention or anything like that but I seriously feel as if I am wasting money and time on those projects. If I come across extra income in the next two months, then I'll continue doing my website(s) as long as I'm able to.

My recommendation is to come back to idiologic.com to see if anything's changed within the next month. Unfortunately, if I do shut down it will be fairly short notice.

And if you're curious about what's really going on, feel free to read the extended entry.
