Home > Frequently Asked Questions Many questions you have about me, my podcast or other parts of my website can be found here. If a question isn't answered here that you have, feel free to ask me. Main Site FAQ - Webcam FAQ - Podcast/Live Event FAQ - Contact FAQ - Technical FAQ Q: How do I change the color theme? See the "Color Preferences". The theme change should be good for 180 days unless you delete the site cookie. OR if the color you chose does not stay on each visit, then you must have cookies disabled. (If you're worried about your privacy, the cookie on my site is only valid for the theme change. That's it.) Update: While I am updating the site with a new layout, the only available color theme is a theme I call "Beta Green". Q: I choose a color theme, but it does not stay that color. What's wrong? Enable cookies or allow cookies from *idiologic.com. Enable cookies through your browser's preferences. (And if you don't know how to do that, just Google the browser your using and the words "enable cookies".) Update: While I am updating the site with a new layout, the only available color theme is a theme I call "Beta Green". Q: How do I contact you if something isn't working the way it should? Go ahead and send me an email. Make sure you let me know what you were trying to do or most likely we'll be playing email tag for a while. Q: I'm having one of these problems: a) Some pages are very bare-bones and have no color on them; b) The contact page will not let me choose how to send you a message; c) The theme changer isn't working; or d) I select a podcast episode to go to, but it won't go. What should I do? You probably have JavaScript disabled. Enable it through your browser's preferences. (And if you don't know how to do that, just Google the browser your using and the words "enable javascript".) My website makes use of JavaScript and will not function correctly without it. Q: I really want to help you out and/or encourage you to continue. How do I do that? Donating through PayPal or Dreamhost and signing up for Dreamhost are great ways to help me out if you'd like to. You can get details about that here. If you can't (or don't want to) help financially, please ask me lots of questions so I have things to talk about on my podcast! :) Either way, I appreciate your support! Q: How can I link to this website? Do you have any linking images? You can use one of these images (or make your own) but please, if you link to me, link to http://www.idiologic.com or http://www.idiopod.com only. Please do not link to other pages. [ Top ] Q: Why have a webcam when you're not going to update it? I try to update my webcam when I possibly can, but it certainly isn't priority. That's because I suffer a lot with allergies so I sometimes have big, dark rings around my eyes that are baggy. I look like I'm on drugs (and I'm not, I don't do drugs - it's stupid). On those days, you're better off looking at my pictures. Q: Will you do cam2cam? Will you get naked for me? Will you [insert something here] on cam for me? Can you be on cam at [insert day, time or now]? No. Q: How can I choose the frequency of cam image updates? I removed the option for a slow or fast refresh of the image because my bandwidth isn't limited as much as before. From now on, my webcam will check with the server regularly (every few seconds) to see if it has been updated. If it has, the picture will refresh. Q: On the front page it says that your webcam is online, but you haven't updated in minutes. What's the deal? Most likely I've left the computer or stopped updating. It will take a few minutes (about 10 minutes) for the script to realize that I haven't updated the cam image. Q: I don't like the interface of the webcam window. How do I fix that? I have opened the possibility for you to use your own cam software to show cam updates. But you'll have to figure out that for yourself. You can find the image located at: http://www.idiologic.com/campic/cam.jpg [ Top ] Q: What is a podcast? This is a question I hate to answer. That's why I'm going to push you to this answer. Q: Really, what is your podcast about? What is its theme? There's not one. I am pretty much just a bisexual/gay guy from the USA who moved to Australia to be with his lover (in an interracial relationship, which honestly, doesn't matter but people ask) and to focus on my career. I talk a lot about the things I encounter here in Australia, how different they are from the USA and such. I use my podcast to just get things "out". Q: When do new idioPod episodes come out? I aim to upload new episodes on Tuesdays and/or Fridays (in the USA: Mondays and/or Thursdays). From the 2nd week of November until the end of February, I update about 1-4 times per month only. NOTE: Because of the latest happenings in my personal life, the schedule is a bit out of whack. Q: When do new vidioPod (video) episodes come out? I do not have a release schedule for the videos. I make a lot of them, but end up releasing about 2% of my collection. Q: I just started listening. Where should I start? Should I download all of them? I'll be honest with you. I don't expect for anybody to download several podcasts to catch up. Some of it is irrelevant now anyway. If you just started listening, you can start with "idioPod 70: Re-Meeting Ben" then download the latest one or two. Then you can listen to those and decide whether you want to download the past ones. Q: How do I subscribe to your podcast with iTunes (or any other reader)? If you use iTunes, you can click this then click the "Subscribe" button. In my opinion, it's the best way to stay updated. However, if you use another reader (which there are so many, I can't give you directions), you can click here. Q: Where is that accent from? I grew up in Texas. I lived some of my life in New York and also in Sydney, Australia. I'll let you work it out. Q: What are your favorite podcasts? I listen to what I can when I have time and if I miss a lot, I don't go back and listen. (Yeah guys, you heard me!) I listen to Ongline Podcast, Nick Thomas's Podcast as well as The Musings of a Tech Writer as well as a few other ones to help me keep my Spanish fresh. :) If you're looking for a podcast done by a gay Australian (who knows a lot more about the country itself), check out Little Aussie Battler. Q: How do I make my own podcast? If you have a new or fairly new Mac, you should be all ready to go. Just read this article to answer this question. (You'll need hosting space which I can refer you to... and save you money. Right now, you can get unlimited space and bandwidth, save $40 off a year of hosting and get two free domains for the life of your account. If you do start your own podcast, let me know. I'd be happy to listen and give you any kind of feedback you request.) Q: I have a question for you and want to ask you for advice or I am just curious. What should I do? Send me your question or questions! I'll usually answer them in my podcast, sometimes in my weblog or I'll be more than happy to reply privately. Just make sure you tell me you want it answered privately and don't forget to leave me a valid email address. Q: What are your live events and when are they scheduled? Every so often I do a live event that is usually a live version of my podcast or video podcast. You can usually find the link for them on the main page of this website. I do my live video podcasts at Ustream.tv and you can find my page here. (The link I provide on my website has the video part and chatroom only.) [ Top ] Q: I sent you an email a long time ago and I still haven't received a reply! When do I get a reply? I try to answer my emails in a timely manner, but due to things called surprises, I can't always do that. If you'd be so kind, you can resend your email again or just send a message saying that you would appreciate a reply sometime before the end of the century. Q: When I send you an email, how do you handle my privacy? I don't share email addresses, ever. When you send me an email though I grab a few extra things like your web browser and operating system but trust me, I can't use that against you in any way. That information helps me if you have any problems and helps me develop my website in the future. Q: I posted a comment on your weblog, when are you going to acknowledge that or reply to it? I try to reply to weblog comments in the comments section of that weblog post. If it needs answered in a new weblog entry, I'll do that. (Same goes for podcast questions/comments!) Q: Which IM service do you use most? MSN and Yahoo but I do pop into the other ones semi-regularly. Q: Do you use MSN Messenger? I do, but please email me for that one. Unfortunately, posting it with the other contacts will get me lots of spam. (I hate spam... in all formats. [ Top ] Q: What are the site's requirements? I trust that you're old enough to make your own choice as of what browser to use. BUT I frequently test my website using Opera 10. I must also add that I am a 100% Mac user (but not a zealot) so I am not fully sure how my site looks with Internet Explorer. I try to build sites that look good with all resolutions and all browsers. (I have tested this site using Opera, Firefox and Safari.) (Update: Thanks to Browsershots.org, I can safely say that my site doesn't look spectacular using IE 5 and 6. It's distorted with IE 8 too. Time to switch browsers if you use this.) Q: What technologies did you use to make this website? Ajaxcam (for the webcam part), iBox and Lightroom (for the pop-ups... the good kind), Dreamweaver (to design), Garageband/Soundtrack Pro (to record podcasts), Photoshop (to half-ass design graphics), Transmit (to upload those files), and Dreamhost (to host those files). Some images were from an icon collection called "Silk". All of this was made on a Mac. Q: Did you make the background patterns yourself? No, no I didn't. I used patterncooler.com to do that. Q: What's up with this? I am totally getting cookies from your website! Mmm... cookies. I like peanut butter cookies. OH, you mean those cookies. Oh, there are a few instances where my site will save your preferences. One of them is for the color theme. The cookie on your system is good for 180 days (but feel free to change it if you want) If you delete this cookie, it will go back to the default theme. Q: I need a host or a website of my own. Can you help me? Just head over to my hosting page. I'll host you for free, for the cost of 2 loaves of bread per month or you can get your own at a discounted rate. Q: Why do you do sponsored posts? I do sponsored posts to cover hosting costs, pay bills and other things (like saving up for a new computer). I try to keep those posts to a minimum.
